Clinical trial on cystine and B vitamins
This is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial on 80 people over 6 months (Piquero-Casals et al., Skin Appendage Disorders, 2025). The tested supplement combines L-cystine, vitamins B3, B5, B6, biotin and zinc. At 6 months, hair density increased by 12.3 hairs/cm² versus 1.5 for the placebo, and hairs in the growth phase by 21.4 versus 1.9 (p < 0.001).
The tested supplement also contained plant extracts (S. repens, C. pepo, P. africanum): this is not the HAIRNSHAPE formula. Study funded by the manufacturer of the tested supplement.

A nettle leaf extract reduces the gene expression of the 5α-reductase II enzyme, which produces DHT, in cultured skin cells (factor 0.59; p = 0.0021). (Pekmezci & Türkoğlu, Georgian Medical News, 2023.)
This is an in vitro result, on cells and not in humans: it does not establish an effect on hair loss.
